The Launch

The Bahrain Foundation for Dialogue (BFD) [formerly the Bahrain Foundation for Reconciliation and Civil Discourse] was launched on the 10th of May 2012, with the blessing of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. The BFD aims to promote civil dialogue, community coherence, and civil harmony, through a series of programs and events that highlight the importance of constructive cooperation and positive coexistence, and facilitate the exchange of ideas throughout society.

Message from the founder

The idea of establishing an organization to promote civil dialogue and social reconciliation came in the aftermath of the painful February 2011 crisis, which led to social frictions, political polarization and the eruption of sectarian tensions.
We are honored and blessed to have the endorsement of HRH the Crown Prince, who is a concerned Bahraini citizen first and foremost, and cares deeply about the true Bahraini values of tolerance and positive, peaceful coexistence.
The Bahrain Foundation for Dialogue is a private, independent, non-profit, non-political organization that aims to bring together the people of our beloved Kingdom through constructive civil dialogue. We believe that dialogue, positive coexistence, tolerance and collaboration are the most effective methods of combating extremism, sectarianism and hatred.
We are guided by our personal and religious values, inspired by the saying of the Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon him, his family and his companions] "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever".
May the Almighty grant us all success and guidance.
